BIOGRAPHY

Claudio Rado (Treviso, 1990) began studying the violin at the age of five. At 17, he graduated under the guidance of Giorgio Fava at the “A. Steffani” Conservatory in Castelfranco Veneto. He then attended a three-year master degree at the “Accademia di Santa Cecilia” in Rome in the class of S. Tchakerian.

Always passionate about early music on historical instruments, in 2016 he was selected as a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra (EUBO), with which he performed at major festivals throughout Europe.

He collaborates regularly with internationally renowned ensembles and artists, including Gli Angeli Genève, I Sonatori de la Gioiosa Marca, La Cetra Barockorchester, Stefano Montanari, Vivica Genaux, Kristian Bezuidenhout, Anne Sofie von Otter, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, and Alfredo Bernardini.

Important milestones in his training also include the advanced course with Giuliano Carmignola at the “Accademia Chigiana” in Siena (Diploma of Merit, 2010); a Master’s in Chamber Music with the Trio di Parma at the “Accademia di Duino” (awarded the “Bruno Premuda” Prize for best ensemble, with E. Nalivkina, 2015); and a three-year Master’s in Baroque Violin at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis (Switzerland) under the guidance of Leila Schayegh (graduating cum laude, 2019).

He is concertmaster of Los Elementos Ensemble, directed by Alberto Miguélez Rouco, with which he has recorded five CDs (released by GLOSSA, Panclassics, Aparté, and Opéra Royal) and with which he maintains an intense concert activity. The ensemble has been invited to major festivals including Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical, Teatro de la Zarzuela (Madrid), Stockholm Early Music Festival, Festival de Saintes, Festival Pablo Casals, and Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik.

The ensemble’s most recent recording, Venus y Adonis, released in January 2025, was named “CD of the Month” by the Spanish magazine Scherzo and the Australian magazine Limelight; it also received the Diapason Découverte award from the renowned French magazine Diapason, as well as the prestigious Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (Opera category).

He is also Konzertmeister of Sestier Armonico, an ensemble founded by Giulio De Nardo, with which he released Il Suono ritrovato, a CD dedicated to A. Vivaldi’s concertos for violin and obbligato organ. The recording received wide critical acclaim, recognized by awards from the magazines Klassik HeuteOnline MerkerScherzo, and Ritmo, and is currently on the Long List for the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik (Concerto category).

Thanks to the generous support of a Basel-based foundation, Claudio Rado plays a precious violin built in 1767 by José Contreras, the celebrated luthier of the Spanish Court. He regularly pairs this instrument with a violin made in 2013 by Treviso luthier Franco Simeoni.
